Freiburg vs SG Mainz | Heusenstamm

17. Sept.
3 Min. Lesezeit

Zum Man of the Match wurde Scrum-Half Gus Barrowman gewählt.

***ENGLISH VERSION***

The Men’s XV put in a strong performance at the weekend, coming away with a convincing 62–10 win. There was plenty to be pleased with, particularly in attack, while the game also highlighted a few areas to work on over the coming weeks.

The team started well and repeatedly showed the quality they can produce when the structure comes together. Moves from the set piece worked particularly well, while Freiburg were also clinical when getting into the opposition 22, turning a large number of those opportunities into points. As the game went on, the Men’s XV took more and more control and finished the match strongly.

Defensively, the team was solid for most of the afternoon, with the opposition finding most of their success out wide. At the same time, there are still a few things to sharpen up in training, particularly discipline, tackle height, handling and accuracy at the lineout.

Gus Barrowman was named Man of the Match after an excellent performance at scrum-half. He played a big part in keeping the team moving and bringing tempo to Freiburg’s attack throughout the game.

Captain and No. 8 Warren Hamann also led from the front with a strong performance, making his presence felt both with ball in hand and around the field. Ronan Elsholtz was another standout in the second row, putting in a big shift in the tight as well as in open play.

There was also a very promising first-cap performance from James Bull at fly-half. In his first appearance for the Men’s XV, he showed plenty of quality in the No. 10 shirt and made an immediate impact. Unfortunately, a yellow card means that we are officially required to take back all of the nice things we just said about him.

A big congratulations also goes to Marvin Kammerdiener, James Bull und Thomas Johnsen, who all made their first appearances for the Men’s XV. A great milestone for all three, and hopefully the first of many.

There is plenty to be happy about after a 62–10 win, but also plenty to keep working on. The focus now is on sharpening the basics, improving our execution and taking that momentum into Saturday.
